My trip to Beras Basah Island is in the event of my Department's outbound/team building training activity. Because the Company I worked has cooperation with PT Badak NGL, we were given the opportunities to try their facility, which is Pantai Marina. At Pantai Marina, there are snorkeling set readily to use to be borrowed and also a sail boat with the instructor to try Sailing water sport. I choose Snorkeling first because I already brought my Snorkeling equipment from Jakarta. After finishing Sailing and Snorkeling activity, we were picked up to Beras Basah Island by using speed boat.

There is nothing special in this island, only an old lighthouse and a few food-stalls selling fresh coconut and stew noodle. The sand are coarse and sharp, so using appropriate sandals or neoprene booties will protect our feet to get wounded. The water also muddy and filled with sea grass that will make swimming uncomfortable. But the view is quite beautiful especially the part where the lighthouse placed. The uniqueness of this island is the abundance of various color and species of starfish population. The presence of starfish is the sign of the deterioration of the reefs because starfish are indeed the pest for live coral. I saw it myself while snorkeling that I hardly found live coral here. But I appreciate the effort from some employees from PT Badak for the rehabilitation of live coral artificially using cages. Unfortunately I can't saw it myself because their positions are quite deep and I had trouble with my snorkel.

Saya berharap pulau ini tetap bersih dan masyarakat Bontang menjaga pulau ini dengan penuh tanggung jawab.
I hope the island will stay clean and the people of Bontang responsibly taking care of this Island.
